Shopping for shoes at Diva CentralRESTON, VA — Reston Community Center is accepting donations of accessories, including shoes, jewelry, handbags and shawls, for its 17th annual Diva Central Accessories Drive beginning Friday, February 1.

From February 1 – 28, RCC will be collecting gently used items at its Hunters Woods and Lake Anne locations. Donations are tax deductible and may be dropped off Monday – Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sundays.

Donations will benefit middle and high school students in Reston and surrounding areas, who can outfit themselves for prom and spring dances for free.

Please note, RCC does not need donations of dresses this year. “Patrons have made such generous dress donations in recent years, RCC’s clothing racks will be well stocked at the March 30 Diva Central Event,” said RCC Executive Director Leila Gordon.

Since 2003, Diva Central’s mission has been to promote confidence and self-esteem by providing dresses to area high school students. For the past couple of years, middle school teens have been added to the event so their school dance needs can also be met. Local businesses generously donate gift certificates and other dance-related services to help the students create a truly memorable night.

This year’s dress and accessories giveaway event is planned for Saturday, March 30, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at RCC Lake Anne, 1609-A Washington Plaza in Reston. All local middle and high school students are invited to attend and “shop” for dresses, shoes and other accessories for free. Registration is not required
