RESTON, VA – Reston Community Center is pleased to present an innovative new program that will help preschool-age children get ready for kindergarten.

RCC Preschool Prep will be held on Tuesday mornings from October 2 to May 14. Classes are 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. (3 year olds), 10:45 a.m. – 12:15 a.m. (4 year olds) or 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. (4 year olds).

The free program, which children attend with a parent or guardian, gives parents the tools, skills and confidence they will need to work with their children in the home and prepare them for kindergarten.

Working in conjunction with Fairfax County Public Schools and Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), adults will receive training, instruction and materials for activities in reading, writing, language, math and motor development. Materials will be in English and Spanish, and adults and children will meet with the HIPPY instructor weekly to learn new skills and check on progress.

“The transition from home to kindergarten is a big leap into a brand new world. Preschool Prep will take the fear away and make sure that leap has a happy landing,” said Leila Gordon, RCC Executive Director. “We are excited to offer this vital resource to our community’s families.”
