RCC SEEKS INPUT ON PROGRAMS, FACILITIES AND SERVICES

 IN 2019 COMMUNITY SURVEY (PDF)

RESTON, VA – You can shape the future of Reston Community Center.

RCC is working with the Center for Survey Research at the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service to launch a comprehensive community survey that will explore how the community uses RCC’s programs, facilities and services.

The survey will also seek information about community views on a potential new performing arts venue in Reston.

It has been 10 years since RCC did a scientific survey of its constituents. During that time, the population in Reston has changed and is expected to experience major growth in the future as both new residents and businesses come to the part of the community that is now served by Metro’s Silver Line. RCC wants to know how people recreate, enjoy arts and culture, obtain information about leisure-time options, and what they hope RCC offers – both now and in the future.

“Reston depends on RCC for leisure-time options to enjoy; we want to assure that we are in touch with current views about how people want us to serve their needs. In addition, the media landscape has radically changed and we want to know more about how people get information,” said Leila Gordon, RCC’s executive director. “Along with these issues, this is an ideal opportunity to find out the community’s views about development of a new performing arts venue.”

Selected survey participants (geographically representing Reston’s neighborhoods) will receive an advance letter in June notifying them of their opportunity to complete the survey. They will then be mailed a questionnaire and a postage-paid return envelope. The envelopes will be marked with the logos of RCC and the Center for Survey Research. Alternate language versions of the survey will be available in Spanish, Russian, Mandarin and Arabic.

Those who do not receive a mailed questionnaire can also participate in the survey. There will be a link to the survey on RCC’s website for any Reston community member to use.

Paper surveys will also be available at RCC’s Customer Service Desks and in a variety of community settings.

The surveys and related outreach are expected to be distributed and collected throughout the summer months.

Following completion of the survey outreach, the Center for Survey Research will complete its analysis. RCC expects to receive their report in September and will share the results with the community. Anyone who wishes to obtain a PDF copy can provide an email address where indicated when they complete the survey. That email information will be shared in an entirely separate and confidential file with RCC – there will be no link between the shared email information and survey responses.

Anyone with questions regarding the Community Survey can send an email to RCCcontact@fairfaxcounty.gov.
