Mar 17, 2017

Diva Central green and gold lookRESTON, VA — Reston Community Center will host its Annual Diva Central Dress Giveaway on Saturday, March 25 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at RCC Lake Anne, 1609-A Washington Plaza in Reston. This incredible one-day event offers students the opportunity to shop for a prom dress, shoes, jewelry and other accessories – all for free. The 2017 event has been expanded to include middle school students looking for dresses for school dances. The first 100 attendees will receive a swag bag. New this year is a do-it-yourself station where attendees will be able to create projects according to the below schedule:

  • 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Make Your Own Hair Accessory
  • 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Make Your Own Boutonniere
  • 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Make Your Own Prom Photo Frame

Eileen Boone, RCC Leisure and Learning Director, says she’s excited about the changes to this year’s event. “We want to be sure cost doesn’t prevent any middle or high school student from enjoying an evening out with friends. People have donated hundreds of beautiful dresses that rival the selection in many department stores. We hope these dresses and DIY activities will inspire confidence that will stay with them long after prom season.”
All dresses were donated in January and February. With the help of Boston Properties and the generosity of the Reston community, Diva Central has collected several hundred dresses for the giveaway event. In addition to prom dresses in all colors, sizes and styles, volunteers will be on hand to help teens select shoes, jewelry, handbags and other accessories to complete their prom look. There is a limit of one dress per person.
This annual event is made possible with generous in-kind support from community partners including Boston Properties, Delta Sigma Theta Fairfax Alumni Chapter, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, Flow Blow Dry Bar, Kalypso’s Sports Tavern, Kendra Scott, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Reston Limousine and Reston Town Center. About Diva Central

Since 2003, Diva Central’s mission has been to promote confidence and self-esteem by providing free prom dresses to students in the Reston area. Each year, RCC collects gently-used and dry-cleaned dresses at donation sites around Reston, and local partners donate gift certificates and other prom-related services to help the students create a truly memorable night. Its quest is to present an opportunity for teens to experience the special fun of a once-a-year dance, and thereby to promote the confidence essential to setting and attaining goals in their future. Middle and high school students are invited to attend and shop for dresses, shoes and other accessories for free. All donations are tax-deductible.
