Reston Youth Art paintingTo celebrate Youth Art Month, nine Reston schools have created a special art exhibit that will be displayed through March at Reston Community Center Lake Anne and Hunters Woods.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade have created works in a variety of mediums, including watercolor, chalk and oil pastels.

Works by students from Aldrin, Armstrong, Dogwood, Forest Edge, Hunters Woods, Lake Anne, Terraset and Sunrise Valley Elementary Schools will be on display at RCC Lake Anne March 3 to April 2 in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery and 3D Gallery. All are welcome to attend a reception March 11, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with welcome remarks at 2:30 p.m. Student ceramic and other three-dimensional pieces will be on display in RCC Lake Anne’s 3D gallery through mid-April.

This year’s exhibits also include works from Langston Hughes Middle School students. Those will be on display at RCC Hunters Woods March 1 to 31.

Reston Community Center Lake Anne is located at 1609-A Washington Plaza. RCC Hunters Woods is located at 2310 Colts Neck Road. Both locations are open 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Youth Art Month, organized by the Council for Art Education, is an annual observance celebrated nationally since 1961. It emphasizes the value of art education and encourages support for quality school art programs.

RCC Arts Education Director Cheri Danaher said she looks forward to displaying the works of Reston’s young artists and highlighting the community’s outstanding arts education programs.

“This is my absolute favorite time in our exhibition schedule,” said Danaher. “We are able to celebrate the work of our students and the importance of art education in our schools and community at large.”
