Offsite Program Instructors

Reston Community Center’s (RCC) Leisure & Learning department is seeking professional instructors to facilitate pop-up style workshops. Interested candidates will bring a desire to share their knowledge, and introduce their work to the Reston community. Instructors will host 2-3 hour workshops during which patrons receive step-by-step instruction on a particular activity or subject. Locations for instruction include, but are not limited to: community centers, commercial businesses and residential multi-family dwelling properties.

The ideal candidates for these positions will have an outgoing, captivating personality, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to work quickly and energetically with our team.

We are currently in search of instructors with experience in the following areas:

  • Horticulturalists (e.g. growing native plants/herbs, constructing terrariums, succulent container gardens, and so on)
  • Arts and crafts (e.g. hand lettering, painting, candle making, woodworking)
  • Fitness and wellness (e.g. yoga, nutrition, meditation)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, teach, oversee and participate in the planning of programs and/or workshops
  • Encourage an open and fun environment to learn a new skill
  • Promote their workshops
  • Create and provide class descriptions and details for their programs
  • Monitor and track records of their participants

Requirements:

  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in a specialized interest or skill, with preferably one year teaching or experience leading programs in a group setting
  • Strong public speaking, presentation and performance skills
  • Can demonstrate techniques and concepts required by their workshop curriculum
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Provide evidence of ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other departments and teams
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from instructional sites
