Woodshop Supervisor


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the RCC Lifelong Learning Program Director, the Woodshop Supervisor supervises the RCC woodshop during open woodshop hours (Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Fridays from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and/or Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).  In addition, the Woodshop supervisor may incur additional supervisory duties such as the 55+ Good Neighbors woodworking workshop, which is held on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., as well as Youth Department children’s tours and building sessions. Finally, the supervisor has the option to instruct specialized classes during a program season per the Lifelong Learning Director’s approval based on budgetary and scheduling guidelines. The Supervisor coordinates supply inventory and notifies the Lifelong Learning Director when new supplies are needed. The Supervisor also educates participants on the use and maintenance of equipment while closely monitoring the safe handling of hand-held and power tools during workshop sessions. This position exercises a high level of independent judgement in planning and organizing the program activities in their area of expertise.

S14 ($18.0170 - $24.0226 per hour)

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains a safe and positive environment for participants;
  • Ensures the proper care and security of RCC equipment and facilities;
  • Communicates with Lifelong Learning Program Director on a regular basis to ensure that problems are addressed in a timely manner;
  • Interacts with public in a positive manner to promote RCC public relations and service delivery;
  • Assists with evaluation and improvement of course content based on participant input;
  • Recommends supply lists within existing budgets and accompanies staff to purchase specialized materials as needed;
  • Knowledge of RCC evacuation and emergency procedures, including immediate notification of emergency and completion of RCC Incident Form in case of emergency;
  • Maintains control and safety of the woodshop with appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with RCC guidelines;
  • Should arrive 15 minutes prior to the beginning of each session to ascertain that the woodshop space is clean, correctly set up, and safe for the participant use;
  • Begin and end woodworking workshop sessions on time;
  • End woodworking session in enough time to clean and setup for the next group;
  • Supervise students at all times during the entire duration of each session;
  • Responsible for the proper use, care, and security of RCC equipment and facilities;
  • Refers suggestions and complaints to the Lifelong Learning Program Director;
  • Notifies the Lifelong Learning Director a minimum of two hours in advance of class if they are unable to supervise the woodworking workshop due to illness or other situations;
  • Verifies attendance and telephone numbers in the first class and maintains a weekly log of class participants.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or certification in a specialized field;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with woodshop equipment as well as design and crafting;
  • Exercises a high level of independent judgement, teaching and good communication skills in individual or group settings. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous teaching experience in a woodshop setting using both power and hand-held tools;
  • Membership in local woodworkers guild with past participation in Woodworking events (e.g. contests, fairs, educational sessions);
  • CPR/First Aid certified;
