Construction Update

Update as of November 5

The substantial completion target date has shifted again – current planning has that milestone being reached on December 17. Also, the screening of the pool overlook windows has been removed. When patrons are in the RCC Hunters Woods facility, they can view the actual project progress from the door to the Pool Overlook area. No access beyond the door is permitted for safety reasons.
The pool renovation project is in the home stretch. Scaffolding is being removed and relocated to finish all the ceiling electrical and mechanical work. Following the ceiling work, crews will begin filling in the deck areas with concrete and tiling. The construction of the new mechanical room is dependent on the completion of the deck.
These construction processes lead to the filling of the pools and then balancing their chemistries. Locker room improvements will be completed by mid-November. Artist Valerie Theberge is also working on her mosaic that will be installed in the beginning of December.
Patrons can anticipate getting back in the water by roughly the middle of December – we look forward to welcoming them soon!
The project team includes Branch Build project manager Bill Ruschaupt. For RRMM Lukmire Architects: Brandon Hughes; for Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES): Martha Sansaver, Karen Davis and Geoff Kimmel; for RCC: Executive Director Leila Gordon and Deputy Director John Blevins.
