March Construction Update

Update as of March 1

It’s been two months since we closed the Terry L. Smith Aquatics Center. After draining the pool in early January, RCC staff vacated the area and the contractor work got underway. There have been two progress meetings to date and the project remains on schedule and on budget.
The crew from Branch Build has been busy in the ceiling and walls, removing wiring and duct work. They have installed a safety railing around the pool and covered the overlook windows. In RCC’s back parking lot, a construction fence and a work trailer have both been put in place. Demolition work has been ongoing for the last half of January and all of February. The anticipated completion of demolition work is in early to mid-March.

The project team includes Branch Build project manager Bill Ruschaupt. For RRMM Lukmire Architects: Brandon Hughes; for Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES): Martha Sansaver, Karen Davis and Geoff Kimmel; for RCC: Executive Director Leila Gordon and Deputy Director John Blevins.
