Join us in celebrating the 27th Annual Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival. Since 1991, the nonprofit Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) has produced the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival, and it has become its largest annual fundraiser. Participating artists uniformly view the festival as one of the best outdoor art festivals in the country and extend high praise to the level of hospitality they receive from volunteers and involvement from a community that appreciates the high quality of the art presented. The festival is free and open to the public, although $5 donations per adult in support of GRACE are encouraged and appreciated. In return for the donation, each patron receives a robust festival program containing more than $50 worth of dining certificates, a map of the festival and complete artist listing.

Festival attendees will enjoy viewing inspiring and innovative art in a wide variety of media, interacting directly with artists from around the country, and exploring their own creativity in the Family Art Park. Thanks to a dynamic partnership with Reston Town Center Association and Boston Properties, all interior streets in Reston Town Center are reserved for pedestrians only during the Festival. The resulting 11-block art walk features more than 200 of the nation’s best artists and offers 30,000-plus art enthusiasts the opportunity to view and purchase original art directly from the participating artists. Reston Community Center is a proud performing arts sponsor and garage parking is FREE all festival weekend.

The Illuminated Fountain of Extinction

The 2018 Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival will feature a special performance and pageant by the Illuminated Fountain of Extinction, a theatrical experience that will invite spectators to participate in a trip across time, chance and temporal illusion.

The Baltimore-based project revolves around a large sculpture – The Illuminated Fountain of Extinction, a 17-foot-tall structure constructed of wood, fabric and paper. The fountain will sit in Reston Town Center’s Pavilion, where it will be illuminated and have amplified sound. The project also features multiple performers and an ongoing parade of creature from the past, present and future.

There will be pageant performances from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, where a rickshaw made from recycled materials and pulled by performers will transport audience members to the pavilion from various areas of the festival. The performers will engage audience members in various ways – some performances will be timed, others are participatory and still others will be living statues. The pageantry will be performed onstage and around festival-goers as it winds around tables, chairs and other spots in the pavilion. View past pageants
