Hava Nagila The Movie

It's to music what the bagel is to food – a Jewish staple that has transcended its origins and become a worldwide hit. Bob Dylan sang it. Elvis, too. And that’s only the beginning when it comes to Hava Nagila. Follow the infectious party song on its fascinating journey from the shtetls of Eastern Europe to the cul-de‐sacs of America in this hilarious and surprisingly deep film. Featuring interviews with Harry Belafonte, Connie Francis, Glen Campbell, Leonard Nimoy, Regina Spektor and more, Roberta Grossman’s engaging documentary film travels the world using the song as a springboard to explore Jewish history and identity and to spotlight the cross-cultural connections that can only be achieved through music.

Reston Community Center will host the closing day of the 20th Annual Northern Virginia Jewish Film Festival. Presented by the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia, the festival will screen more than 15 contemporary, international feature films that explore the expansive scope of Jewish life, culture and identity. Stay afterward to learn to dance the Hava Nagila from Sigi Saadia, share in conversation and enjoy a light brunch in the Community Room. Sigi Saadia has taught Israeli folk dancing in Jewish organizations throughout Northern Virginia, including at the Pozez JCC and Temple Olam Tikvah.
