DESCRIPTION:Oil Paintings by Margarita Reyes and Albert Halac\nReception: Sunday\, May 31\, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. \nMargarita Reyes and Albert Halac are accomplished oil painters originally from South America. Margarita hails from Montevideo\, Uruguay and Albert was born and raised in Argentina. Although their styles and subject matter are quite different\, they share a love of creating art from an early age. \nMargarita ReyesMargarita is the great-granddaughter of the famous Uruguayan painter\, Pedro Figari. Her interest in art and drawing began in early childhood and was nurtured by taking classes in her native Uruguay. She began her formal painting training in 1987 with Raimundo Rubio\, Antonia Ramis\, Pia Imas\, Mara Odette and Monica Schott. Margarita also took classes at Atelier Sisto Pascale in Uruguay. \nNow living in Virginia\, Margarita has won several awards at the inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Gallery exhibits. Her work has been shown at the Uruguayan Embassy\, Cobblestone Art Gallery and The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria\, Virginia and many more. Margarita’s scenes from rural areas capture the tranquility and beauty found there. \nEnjoy her exquisite exhibit of landscapes\, flowers\, trees and nature. \n“Mystical Scene”\, oil on canvas \n \n  \nAlbert Halac\nAlbert came to America from Argentina in his early twenties. His parents encouraged his childhood love of historical comics and his natural talent for drawing everything he saw\, fostering his artistic growth. He carried his talents through school and college and become an avid observer of the diversity of common people through such a lens. \nAlbert has traveled extensively across the Americas and the old world\, and his oil paintings bring home images of people like us from places different from ours but sharing the same challenges of everyday life. DESCRIPTION:Tedd Baker has worked with a wide variety of jazz greats and contemporary artists including Barry Harris\, David Sanborn\, Arturo Sandoval\, Slide Hampton\, Eddie Daniels\, George Duke\, Victor Lewis\, Orrin Evans\, Jason Moran\, Wycliffe Gordon\, Kurt Elling\, Allison Miller\, Fitz and The Tantrums\, Sean Jones\, Michael Mossman\, Warren Wolf\, 8-Bit Big Band\, Ryles Jazz Orchestra with Jon Faddis\, Artie Shaw Orchestra and Donny McCaslin among others. He has also recorded with David Sanborn\, Bobby Caldwell (“After Dark”)\, New York Voices (“Let It Snow”)\, Bohemian Caverns All-Stars\, Amina Figarova Sextet and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra under the direction of David Baker. As an avid believer in educating the next generation\, Baker serves as an adjunct professor of saxophone at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. \n

SUMMARY:Happy Hour with Darden & Friends: Janelle Gill
DESCRIPTION:Pianist Janelle Gill brings listeners on an ethereal journey that transcends the boundaries of jazz. Through her work of self-exploration as it exists in music\, she has tapped into a vein of fluidity that heals with sound. Born and raised in Washington\, D.C.\, Gill is a graduate of Duke Ellington School of the Arts and attended Howard University. Her unique musical expression has brought her to work closely with musicians such as Delfeayo Marsalis\, Oliver Lake\, David Murray\, The Blackbyrds and Maurice Hines in “Tapping through Life” as well as local artists including Marshall Keys\, Nasar Abadey and Kris Funn. Some of the venues she has been in concert include The Kennedy Center\, The Library of Congress\, DC Jazz Festival\, North Sea Jazz Festival\, Montreux Jazz Festival and Baku Jazz Festival. As Janelle continues to be a student of life and welcomes new experiences\, she recently expanded her titles to musical director for the production of Toni Morrison’s “Desdemona\,” which debuted at the Source Theater. She remains a musical educator to everyone of all walks of life.

Starring as Fred Rococo in HBO’s acclaimed series “Somebody Somewhere\, “Murray has won several awards\, including a Peabody Award and AFI. He hosted “Drag Me to Dinner” on Hulu and appears in “Life & Beth” and “Welcome to Flatch.” He also acts in the upcoming movie “Jackpot\,” starring John Cena and Awkwafina. \nIn 2025\, he will release his memoir “Showbiz! My Life as a Middle-Aged Man” with Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books. He served as a special guest correspondent for ABC News during “Pride Across America\,” covering Pride marches in San Francisco\, New York and Chicago. NBC News recognized him as one of the 30 most influential drag performers today. \nMurray received the New York Voices commission from Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater\, where he presented his one-man show “About to Break.” His holiday show “A Murray Little Christmas” has sold out at Joe’s Pub for a decade\, drawing audiences with its festive spirit and fun performances.
