RCC COVID-19 Updates

RCC facilities are open with enhanced safe health practices.

While the Commonwealth of Virginia has lifted COVID-19 requirements for mask-wearing and social-distancing for vaccinated people in most circumstances, there are important considerations for use of RCC facilities that will continue to apply to all patrons. Summer seasons of RCC programming include provision of summer camps and other youth/family programs. Therefore, inside the public areas of our facilities, everyone is asked to continue to wear masks. We want to model to our younger patrons the behavior required of them until they too can be vaccinated.

Social-distance requirements will be relaxed to the extent we feel is prudent based on the type of activity. Limited lockers in the Terry L. Smith Aquatics Center will be available for patron use. Capacities for RCC programs and activities will be adjusted. If public health metrics continue to improve, RCC anticipates restoring full operational schedules and capacities with our fall programs. We appreciate everyone continuing to refrain from participating in RCC programs if unwell.

Unvaccinated people are required to wear masks and socially distance.

Anyone participating in any offering must either register or reserve their pass-use time, no exceptions. Patrons also need to know:

RCC hours for Summer 2021:

  • Monday – Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at both facilities.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at both facilities.
  • Sunday: 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at both facilities.
  • Pools will close a half hour prior to the building closing time to allow time for exiting from the Terry L. Smith Aquatics Center and close at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evenings. Early bird swimming occurs at the Terry L. Smith Aquatics Center Monday through Friday; check myRCC for reservations. The pools will be closed from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. everyday for a deep cleaning.

Aquatics – Aquatics visits will be by reservation or registration only; there will be no drop-in visiting. This will allow for the required distance and capacity restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. For more information click here.

Other programming – Please go to myRCC to see other RCC program offerings. Smaller class maximums will be in place to assure the required social distancing. Registration is best accomplished online via myRCC

Enhanced hygiene and social distancing – Patrons and staff should wear masks in the public areas within the building; patrons in programs without physical exertion requirements are expected to keep wearing their masks only if in the presence of children or if unvaccinated.

Touchless hand sanitizer stations are available in both facilities and patrons are requested to wash hands before and after activities.

Virtual Programming – A variety of virtual youth, fitness and arts videos for instruction at home and entertainment are available. These include popular RCC offerings like Qi Gong Restorative Yoga, Hatha Yoga I, Pilates Mat, Zumba Fitness, and Hi Lo Strength fitness classes. For young people, creative lessons on topics such as mask making, cross stitch and cooking are available, as well as arts and craft ideas from the Lake Anne Art Rave for Kids (LARK) – all are available for viewing on the RCC YouTube channel

RCC will mail a printed program guide to Reston residents beginning with the fall cycle of programming. Patrons can click here to browse a virtual program guide. The online guide will allow the flexibility to make real-time updates.
