SUMMARY:RCC Thanksgiving Drive Volunteer Event
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers will sort non-perishable food donations and load them onto a truck for delivery to the Cornerstones food storage facility. \nDue to the overwhelming volunteer response in past years\, space is limited and registration is required for all participants. Families are encouraged to register all interested members at the same time. Children under 14 are welcome but must be accompanied at all times by an adult or guardian aged 18 or older. \nA smaller group of 25 volunteers who are able to lift 50 pounds will assist with loading the truck. Volunteers will also help assemble hygiene kits to support Reston Community Center’s ongoing Shower Program. \nClosed-toed shoes are required.

DESCRIPTION:Acrylic Paintings Inspired by Colors of Nature by Touran Mahdaviazar \nLocal artist\, Touran Mahdaviazar\, an immigrant from Iran\, presents just a few of her colorful acrylic artworks at Reston Community Center Hunters Woods from December 2 to January 15\, 2026. \n  \nAs a child\, Touran always found comfort and joy in drawing and painting.  She has not had any formal training but is a natural talent. She was always inspired by the wonder and beauty of colors in nature.  She incorporates bright colors in all her work. \nWhen she was a school age girl\, most of her notebooks and textbooks were covered with her drawings. Now in her retirement years\, she has returned to her love of painting and has produced numerous works of art that hang in the homes of her friends and family. Her colorful depictions of nature and people bring peace and joy to the viewer.  \n  \n“When I start a new painting\, I am in a different world where I cannot hear or see anything around me\, and I do not realize the passing of time” Touran says.  She hopes to inspire a new generation to pursue their talent\, inspiration and passion.

SUMMARY:The Last Four Years Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Mixed Media Paintings by Jessica Winfield \n“The Last 4 Years” marks the beginning of my painting journey – a creative spark that ignited in 2022\, inspired by a single memory from 12th grade. Back in the year 2000\, an art teacher handed me a seashell and asked me to paint it. I wasn’t a painter\, but I created a sunset‑colored shell that felt like pure magic. I carried that feeling quietly for years without ever painting again … until 2022\, when life nudged me back toward creativity. \nAfter stepping away from theatre and spending years in the IT world\, I found myself completely burnt out and disconnected from the creative energy that had always fueled me. I needed something to wake up that part of myself again – something joyful\, colorful and freeing. Painting became that spark. What started as a simple attempt to reconnect with a long‑buried memory quickly grew into a vibrant new artistic path. \nAs a professional lighting designer\, I’ve always described my work as “painting for the stage\,” so it felt natural to bring that love of vivid color\, contrast and atmosphere into my canvases. I’ve always been drawn to bright\, electric hues – even though my favorite color is black – and this collection leans joyfully into that contradiction. In a beautiful full‑circle moment\, painting didn’t just open a new door – it brought me back home to the theatre. Creating these pieces rekindled my passion for design\, and I’m now joyfully lighting stages again. It feels especially meaningful to share this collection in the very place where I work\, create and tell stories through light every day: the theatre. \nThese pieces explore landscapes\, figures\, mermaids\, birds\, flowers and Afro‑Caribbean influences\, all filtered through my love of fantasy\, brightness and emotional color. I use fluorescents\, pearlescents and color‑shifting paints and more recently I’ve been embellishing the work with gems\, crystals and unique textures as I explore mixed‑media techniques. Everything is designed to shimmer\, surprise and feel alive. \nThis collection is about joy – about the way bright color can lift a spirit\, spark a smile or shift a day. “The Last 4 Years” is my invitation for viewers to feel the same brightness that painting brought into my life. I hope these works bring as much happiness to others as they brought to me while creating them.

DESCRIPTION:A painting and photography group exhibit by members of the League of Reston Artists \n“Artful Adventures” displays paintings and photographs by member artists who were tasked with finding art in unexpected places. Their journeys\, near and far\, short and long\, focuses on personal growth and transforming their experiences into personal art forms. \nThe League of Reston Artists (LRA) is an active and enthusiastic group of diverse visual fine artists\, photographers and supporters of the arts for over 50 years. Its dual mission is to: \n\nProvide its members with opportunities to grow\, learn and exhibit their creative accomplishments.\nProvide the local community with opportunities to experience and appreciate a wide range of visual art and gain insight into the creative process.\n\nWith guest speakers and artist demonstrations\, we offer learning and inspiration while raising awareness and appreciation of the arts through our numerous exhibits\, shows\, events and quarterly meetings. We welcome both artists and members of the public to join us. \n LRA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer-run organization that sponsors Reston Photographic Society and provides an annual scholarship to promising high school seniors who will continue their education in the visual arts. Minimal annual dues entitle active artists to a variety of exhibition\, learning\, community and volunteer opportunities.
