SUMMARY:“What We Love” Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Acrylic and mixed media paintings by Alfa Tate-O’Neill \nAlfa Tate-O’Neill is a Washington\, D.C.-based artist who transforms personal photographs into mixed-media paintings infused with a hint of magical realism. Born in Zurich and raised in the U.S.\, she spent over 35 years marketing iconic Hollywood films before shifting her creative energy toward fine art. Her works blend acrylic paint\, photography and hand-applied “bling” (rhinestones or jewelry)\, bringing cherished moments of family\, friends\, pets and places vividly to life on canvas. \n“What We Love\,” Alfa’s exhibit in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery from November 4 to December 1\, displays 60 of these exemplary works. It encourages all of us to focus on cherished aspects of life\, including the things we love\, especially during these challenging times. She shares some things that she loves with the hope that you will share what you love with her. \nSince relocating from Los Angeles to Washington with her White Swiss Shepherd\, Marco\, Alfa has exhibited with organizations including the Alexandria Arts Commission\, The Art League\, Nepenthe Gallery\, Annmarie Sculpture Garden\, Las Laguna Art Gallery and West Elm. Her mission: to celebrate joy\, humanity and spirituality through art that is as intimate as it is luminous. \nFor information on the “Meet the Artist” event on Sunday November 9\, go to Alfa’s website: alfadesignllc.com or send her an email. Light refreshments will be served\, and guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite piece during the event – the winner of a drawing will be able to keep that painting! \n

SUMMARY:“Split Vision” Reception
DESCRIPTION:Paintings by Marshall Wickramaratne and Laura Wickramaratne \n“Split Vision” is an exploration of generational creativity\, showcasing the work of a father and daughter united by medium but divided by style. Through the shared language of painting\, this exhibition highlights the evolving nature of artistic expression across time\, family and perspective. It shows the many ways that personal voice reshapes tradition. The same brush can tell radically different stories. \n“Split Vision” Exhibit: October 28 – December 1\, 2025

SUMMARY:“From Wood to Watercolor” Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Watercolor Paintings by Don Janus\n \nReception: Sunday\, January 11\, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. \n“From Wood to Watercolor” speaks to the primary elements underpinning my creative process. From journeyman carpenter to master woodworker\, sometime potter and avid sketcher\, I have always been creating things with my hands. \nMy initial foray from sketcher to watercolorist was at the behest of Lubna Zahid\, a fine artist and former RCC instructor\, who encouraged me to try my hand at painting. Other strong influences include Christine Lashley\, Diane Ellor and Vicky Zhou\, along with a group of painting friends who continue to inspire me. \nThe essential through-line connecting my creative experience is the ability to envision how to manifest a desired outcome. That line flows directly into watercolor\, where it takes a practiced hand to brush paint onto paper and bring my vision to light. Many courses\, online immersions and museum visits later\, with some homage images on display here\, you can see my influences span Edward Seago\, Edward Wesson\, James McNeil Whistler\, Andrew Wyeth\, Issac Levitan and Chiura Obata. \nAs also evidenced in this exhibit\, I gravitate toward portraying structures in rural landscapes\, particularly the decrepit\, weathered remnants that I have witnessed across Rappahannock County where I have built my studio. I also have an affinity for certain furry and feathered creatures.

SUMMARY:Five By Seven Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Mixed Media and Oil Paintings by Karen Rose Loehr\nReception: Sunday\, February 15\, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. \nKaren’s Rose Loehr’s exhibit during February is an exploration of process over finished product: a call and response versus direct observation. Most of her works began as taped-off grids on 24-by-18-inch sheets of paper and were developed through cycles of mark-making\, obliteration and further mark-making. As layers are added and erased\, each section of the grid gradually emerges with its own identity\, fully revealed when the tape is removed. This process allows for accidents and chance to play a critical role in the final piece. \nThis is Karen’s first exhibit in the gallery dedicated to her mother\, Jo Ann Rose. It is particularly meaningful because when Jo Ann became ill\, Karen took her seat on the RCC Board of Governors and helped make her mother’s dream of having an exhibition space in Reston a reality. \nKaren is a DMV-based artist working in Reston\, Virginia. She attended the Corcoran School of Art and has shown her work primarily in the Washington\, D.C. area. \nOn Sunday\, February 15\, please join her during the opening reception from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery. \nContact: Karen Rose Loehr: karenloehr@gmail.com
