DESCRIPTION:The Tephra ICA Arts Festival (formerly known as the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival) returns to the unique outdoor environment of Reston Town Center. In its 32nd year\, this special weekend brings to Reston over 200 artists from around the country who produce high quality\, hand-crafted\, and one-of-a-kind artworks. Visitors to the Festival will have the opportunity to purchase work directly from exceptional artists\, as well as enjoy free innovative performances and creative hands-on art projects. \nThis year’s Festival will mark the 50th anniversary of Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art (Tephra ICA)\, \na dynamic cultural institution with a rich history in providing innovative experiences around contemporary art. The Tephra ICA Arts Festival is produced as a fundraiser for Tephra ICA and art sales directly benefit the participating artists. Performers will process through the Festival streets adorned in intricate sculptural costumes created by the artist that simultaneously make their bodies anonymous and hyper visible.  Using the archetype of the traveler and the anthropomorphic representation of mother nature\, this performance humanizes the figure of the immigrant and celebrates the power and beauty of nature. \nHoesy Corona is a Latinx Queer artist who has been exploring climate migration in work created over the last decade.

DESCRIPTION:The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) National Heritage Fellowships are the nation’s highest honor in folk and traditional arts. Come to the annual Reston Multicultural Festival where you will see some of these renowned artists and so much more!  \nThe Legendary Ingramettes\nThe Legendary Ingramettes\, formed by evangelist Maggie Ingram\, are a celebrated gospel group from Richmond\, Virginia\, known as the city’s “First Family of Gospel.” Despite facing challenges\, including being a single mother and the pre-civil rights South\, Ingram’s determination led the group to success. They have performed alongside renowned artists and continue to inspire audiences with their spirited performances\, even after Maggie’s passing\, under the leadership of her daughter Almeta Ingram-Miller. In 2022\, The Legendary Ingramettes were named National Heritage Fellows\, a lifetime honor presented to master folk and traditional artists by the National Endowment for the Arts. The Fellowship is the United States government’s highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. It is a one-time only award and fellows must be living citizens or permanent residents of the United States. \nPerformance time: 5:15 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. \nWayne Henderson\nWayne Henderson was born\, raised\, and still lives in Rugby\, population seven\, near the North Carolina border. When his first guitar proved a disappointment\, he set out to build his own from the bottom of a dresser drawer. Over 656 guitars later\, his playing is just as admired\, and he’s traveled the world sharing it. He took first place 13 times at the Galax Fiddlers’ Convention guitar competition\, and in 1995 was honored with the National Endowment for the Arts’ National Heritage Fellowship. \nPerformance time: 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. \nRoen Halley\nOf Native Hawaiian descent\, Roen Halley Kahalewai McDonald Hufford carries on the tradition of ka hana kapa (making bark-cloth) and is a leading figure in the reclamation of this nearly lost art. \nPerformance time: 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. \nTsering Wangmo Satho\nTsering Wangmo Satho was born in a refugee settlement in southern India in 1967. Her elders served as living examples of their traditions and language. Satho trained at the Tibetan Institute of the Arts (TIPA)\, founded by the Dalai Lama. Public Art Reston’s beloved ChalkFest is coming back this Fall to the Reston Town Center. \nOn Sunday\, October 19\, Market Street will come alive as professional and amateur artists\, as well as families and kids transform the pavement into a vibrant outdoor art gallery. \nThis free\, family-friendly event promises a day full of colorful chalk art\, live music by Bach to Rock Herndon\, and face painting—a joyful celebration of art\, imagination\, and community spirit. \nFor those interested in showcasing their talents and competing for prizes\, registration is required and it’s highly recommended to secure your spot in advance as the event has sold out in previous years. \nRegistration Categories:\nProfessional Artists: By invitation only\nAmateur Artists – $30\nFamilies & Kids – $20 \nRegistered participants will receive a designated square and a full chalk art kit.
