FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Terry L. Smith Aquatics Center Temporarily Closes for Emergency Repairs (PDF)
RESTON, VA – The Terry L. Smith Aquatics Center will be closed due to an unforeseen issue arising from our recent maintenance period. Reston Community Center (RCC) plans the repair for the one-week period beginning Sunday, September 27 at 8 p.m. through Sunday, October 4 at 8 p.m. inclusive.
The maintenance issue arises from our recent re-caulking of the pool during the traditional maintenance period. The mixture of ingredients used for this specialized compound went wrong and the seal is not satisfactory. As a result, the pool will need to be drained, caulking removed and replaced as quickly as practicable.
RCC will contact participants in our Reston swim team practices and our registered programs as well as our Aquatics patrons with this information. Weekday classes will use the “make-up” week between sessions to recover lessons. Weekend classes will miss a single class for which RCC will provide a “free-swim” one-time use pass. Reston swim teams will have their arrangements adjusted to make up for the lost practice time.
The pool will reopen on Monday, October 5 at 6 a.m.
