RESTON, VA — Reston Community Center (RCC) has changed the name of “NV Rides Reston” to “RCC Rides.” Since launching in July 2015, this innovative program has given more than 530 rides to Reston adults 55 years and older who cannot drive. Ride destinations vary but the majority of them are in or around Reston. More than 112 riders and 34 drivers are now a part of the Reston program. The name change will help differentiate the Reston program from similar ride programs under the NV Rides umbrella.
“Changing the program name to RCC Rides will help our community identify this as an RCC program that serves senior adults living in Small District 5,” said Eileen Boone, Director of RCC’s Leisure and Learning Programs. “This program was created in response to a need in our community and we are proud that Reston Community Center has been able to help meet this need.”
RCC Rides remains a part of NV Rides – a network of service providers who coordinate volunteer driver transportation programs throughout Fairfax County. RCC Rides provides door-to-door rides to help get older adults to important engagements, ranging from RCC’s social and enrichment activities to medical appointments. Ride services are provided exclusively by volunteer drivers, free of charge, to anyone age 55 or older who resides in Reston Community Center’s Small District 5 boundaries. RCC continues to seek drivers to help meet the rider needs in Reston. All volunteer driver applicants undergo a thorough DMV and background check paid for by NV Rides. Once volunteer drivers have been approved, they will learn how to use the easy web-based scheduling system, RideScheduler, and be able to choose the appointments that best suit their personal schedule – no minimum number of rides is required. The system also allows for schedule changes should they be needed. Volunteer drivers can create a mileage report for their annual tax filings directly from the RideScheduler software.
