THREE APPOINTED TO RCC BOARD OF GOVERNORS

RESTON, VA – On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the request of Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter L. Alcorn, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed three Reston residents to the nine-member Reston Community Center (RCC) Board of Governors: William G. Bouie, Lisa Sechrest-Ehrhardt and Malka Wickramatilake were the highest vote getters in the recently completed RCC Preference Poll. All three candidates were appointed for three-year terms. Bouie and Sechrest-Ehrhardt were incumbents. Wickramatilake is new to the RCC Board. Mahnaz Weldy, who placed fourth in the voting, also participated in the 2024 Preference Poll as a new candidate.

The three-year terms for Bouie, Sechrest-Ehrhardt and Wickramatilake will begin on November 4, 2024. The 2024 RCC Preference Poll, in which residents and businesses located in Small District 5 may vote, ran from September 6 to September 27, 2024. The results for the four candidates are as follows:

Malka Wickramatilake has been a resident of Reston since1988 and serves as a Fairfax County Public School mentor and on the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center board. In her volunteer roles, she uses her organizing and communications expertise to bring people together for projects globally and locally. She looks forward to serving RCC similarly.

William G. Bouie has served on the RCC Board of Governors since 2003. He is also chairman emeritus of the Fairfax County Park Authority Board. Mr. Bouie is a telecommunications executive who is a passionate advocate for Reston and Fairfax County sports and recreation opportunities. He has also served on the boards of the Wolf Trap Foundation, Public Art Reston, Fairfax County YMCA/Reston and Reston Youth Baseball.

Lisa Sechrest-Ehrhardt is a 46-year resident of Reston and an RCC Board of Governors member since 2012. As a social worker, she is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and she seeks to use her professional and personal experiences to contribute to the social, cultural and educational environments provided by RCC and to assure that RCC offerings are available to everyone.
