RCC’s Annual Diva Central Dress Giveaway Event Returns
Strengthening our commitment to environmental stewardship
RESTON, VA – On Saturday, March 22, Reston Community Center hosts the 23rd Annual Diva Central Formal and Prom Dress Giveaway at RCC Lake Anne. Local middle and high school students are invited to enjoy a boutique shopping experience where they can select a complete outfit for their spring formal dance or prom. The goal of this annual giveaway is to break down barriers to special moments and ease the burden that prom costs can put on families. The combined cost of hair styling, makeup, gowns, tickets and transportation puts attending the prom out of reach for many families.
This one-day event offers an ideal shopping experience for middle and high school students in need of a dress, shoes, jewelry and other accessories. Everything is FREE and each shopper can select up to two outfits. Volunteers will be available to assist teens in choosing their outfits. Attendees can also enjoy sweet treats, enter for chances to win giveaways and participate in various activities, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.
“In addition to making prom more accessible, we hope that Diva Central helps students feel valued,” said RCC Board Chair Beverly Cosham. “This event is designed to empower students by allowing them to choose a dress that makes them feel their best. Our goal is to enhance their sense of self-worth long after the event has concluded.”
In February, the Diva Central Dress Drive saw an incredible response from the community, with hundreds of gently-used and new items donated, offering students a diverse selection of sizes and styles. This event not only showcases community spirit but also promotes sustainability in fashion by encouraging the reuse and repurposing of clothing, aligning with Gen Z’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
To generate excitement for the event, mannequins styled in donated dresses and accessories were strategically placed in the main office at South Lakes High School and RCC facilities. These mini fashion installations serve as a visual representation of the community’s collaboration and support, as well as an open invitation for participation.
