Honoring Hispanic Heritage: Guillermo Huaman Bravo

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize Guillermo Huaman Bravo who embodies how culture, values and service can build meaningful connections across our diverse community.

Originally hailing from Lima, Perú, Guillermo has been part of the RCC Facilities team for more than ten years. Before joining full time, he visited RCC while servicing vending machines and was drawn to the center’s welcoming atmosphere and vibrant programs. When the opportunity arose to become part of the team, he didn’t hesitate.

Guillermo credits his mother, who ran a store, with teaching him the importance of listening to others and always finding ways to help. He brings that lesson to his work each day, focusing on making everyone feel cared for.

Fluent in both Spanish and English, Guillermo takes pride in ensuring communication is never a barrier. During the pandemic he deepened that commitment by learning American Sign Language (ASL) after recalling an earlier interaction with a patron who was deaf. Over three years of study, he earned an ASL certificate and discovered how powerful it is to make someone feel seen and understood.

One moment stands out for Guillermo: when he recognized and responded to a patron’s signing, her face lit up. They formed a lasting connection and Guillermo is proud to help make RCC a place where everyone feels they belong.

For Guillermo, embracing diversity isn’t just part of the job, it’s a way of life. He continues RCC’s long-standing tradition of welcoming people from all backgrounds. Whether through a warm smile, a kind word in Spanish or a conversation in ASL, Guillermo ensures that every visitor feels valued.
