The Reston Museum was founded in 1996 as a community nonprofit organization that preserves the past, informs the present and influences the future of Reston through its exhibits, public programs and events – among which are community favorites such as Celebrate Reston! (formerly Founder’s Day), the Reston Home Tour and the Lake Anne Cardboard Boat Regatta. Reston: Exemplar of Urban Design What makes an ideal community – and can design create it? Using Reston as a case study, this program will briefly trace the history of planned communities, highlight their key features and explore how urban design shapes our sense of community.
