Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appoints three to RCC Board of Governors

RESTON, VA – October 14, 2026 – On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the request of Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter L. Alcorn, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed three Reston residents to the nine-member Reston Community Center (RCC) Board of Governors. Paul Berry, William Penniman and Hunter Wagenaar earned the highest number of votes in the recently completed RCC Preference Poll. Berry and Penniman were incumbents. Wagenaar is new to the RCC Board.

The three-year terms for Berry, Penniman and Wagenaar will begin on November 2, 2026. The appointments were made based upon the official results of the 2026 RCC Preference Poll, which ran from September 4 to September 25, 2026. Vote tallies for the three candidates were as follows:

William Penniman – 1,152
Hunter Wagenaar – 1,067
Paul Berry – 946

Paul Berry has served on the RCC Board since 2023. He has been part of leadership teams for many public service projects in Fairfax County including the decennial redistricting and county-wide efforts to remove the names of slaveholders from the magisterial districts. At the state level, he served Governor Northam on the Virginia Latino Advisory Board.

William Penniman has served on the RCC Board since 2006. He previously served as the Board’s secretary and treasurer, and he is active in the Reston Planning and Zoning Committee. He represented RCC to the Reston Comprehensive Plan Task Force, former Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force and is an active member in the Sierra Club.

Hunter Wagenaar earned both his undergraduate degree and his Master of Public Policy at the University of Virginia, where he led efforts to strengthen alumni relations, improve peer health education and provide broader historical context for historical buildings, statues and landmarks. He volunteers with Fairfax County’s Invasive Management Areas program and PRISM, doing hands-on work to remove invasive plants and care for our shared natural spaces.
