RESTON, VA – October 29, 2026 – Reston Community Center (RCC) announces several transitions on its Board of Governors, including Paul Thomas’s departure following his appointment as Hunter Mill District Planning Commissioner, Daton Lynch’s appointment to complete Thomas’s term, the conclusion of longtime Board member Vicky Wingert’s service and the appointment of three members to new three-year terms beginning November 2.
“Public service is at its best when people bring their time, experience and commitment together for the benefit of the community,” said RCC Board Chair Bill Bouie. “On behalf of the Board, I want to extend our sincere appreciation to Paul Thomas and Vicky Wingert for their service and contributions to Reston Community Center. We also welcome Daton Lynch and returning Board members William Penniman and Paul Berry, along with new member Hunter Wagenaar. Each member brings valuable perspectives and a shared opportunity to help RCC continue serving the diverse needs of our community.”
Thomas resigned from the RCC Board on September 14 following his appointment to the Hunter Mill District Planning Commission. His new role continues his public service to Reston, bringing his community perspective to the County’s planning process. RCC thanks Thomas for his thoughtful contributions to the Board and wishes him continued success in this next chapter of public service.
At the request of Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter L. Alcorn, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Daton Lynch at its October 27 meeting to serve the remainder of Thomas’s term through November 2028. An attorney and experienced government relations professional, Lynch is active in local youth recreation and community service, including the Reston Swim Team Association and Reston Hoops.
“We are grateful to Paul for his service and to Vicky for the many years she dedicated to RCC and the Reston community,” said RCC Executive Director BeBe Nguyen. “Their contributions have helped sustain the programs, experiences and community connections that make RCC such an important part of Reston. We look forward to welcoming Daton Lynch and Hunter Wagenaar and to continuing our work with returning members William Penniman and Paul Berry. Strong governance and a shared commitment to our mission of ‘Enriching lives and Building Community’ help ensure RCC remains responsive, inclusive and forward-looking as we serve our community.”
Wingert’s term concludes November 2, marking the end of her many years of service on the RCC Board. RCC recognizes her longstanding commitment, thoughtful perspective and dedication to the community and extends its sincere appreciation for her contributions to the organization and the people it serves.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed William Penniman, Hunter Wagenaar and Paul Berry on October 13 to three-year terms beginning November 2. The appointments followed RCC’s Preference Poll, held September 4 through September 25.
Penniman and Berry return as incumbents, having served on the Board since 2006 and 2023, respectively. Wagenaar joins the nine-member Board with a background in public policy, university leadership and environmental stewardship.
RCC looks forward to working with its incoming and returning Board members as they help guide the organization’s continued commitment to accessible programs, enriching experiences and a vibrant, connected Reston community.
