Instructor III Lake Anne Art Rave for Kids Lead Instructor

Job Description

Pay rate: $25.45/hour
Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Location:
Reston Community Center, Lake Anne

Position Description
Lake Anne Art Rave for Kids (LARK) is a multi-arts day camp program for ages 7-13. Each two-week session of classes incorporates lessons in music, ceramics, painting, drawing, and much more. The final day of each session will feature an “exhibit opening” where the participants’ creations will be displayed.

Program and Administrative Responsibilities 

  • In co-operation with a co-instructor, plan, supervise and implement daily arts activities for a group of 20 young artists
  • Design creative, age-appropriate projects that encourage creativity and exploration
  • Provide a supportive, nurturing environment for young artists of varying abilities
  • Ensure the safety of participants
  • Plan and support participants in exhibiting their work with an emphasis on process over product
  • Provide feedback to parents/guardians as needed
  • Provide supply requests to the Arts Education Director
  • Provide lesson/project outlines as requested by the Arts Education Director
  • Participate in training and planning prior to the start of the program

Minimum Employment Standards 

  • Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school and graduation from an accredited college or university

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Knowledge and ability to plan, develop, supervise, and administer visual arts activities
  • Youth teaching experience (classroom or teaching artist) in the visual and/or performing arts
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the participants and staff members.
  • Must be cooperative, dedicated, reliable and patient

Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must be First-Aid and CPR certified at the beginning of camp.
