Young Actors Theatre Production Assistant

Job Description

Pay rate: $14.42 per hour
Hours: 115 hour contract; Monday – Friday
Dates: July 6 – August 7, 2026
Location: Reston Community Center, Hunters Woods

Position Description
The Young Actors Theatre (YAT) program is a five-week program, July 6 – August 7, 2026, that trains young actors in the disciplines of voice, dance and acting with a focus of exposing participants to the process of theatrical productions. There will be a maximum of 75 participants that are split into three groups. The 7-11 age group is limited to 50 participants who will be divided into two groups. The 12-15 age group is limited to 25 participants.  Each group will perform a final performance on one of the following dates August 5, 6, and 7, 2026.

Program and Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Supports a YAT play by providing support in props, assistant stage management, and other production role
  • Assists in the supervision of participants during rehearsals, lunch, and sign-in/sign-out. Rehearsals are 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Responsible for room preparation, set-up, and clean up
  • Contributes to an organized and positive rehearsal environment
  • Prepares for and attends production meetings as assigned. Production meetings take place after 3:00 p.m.
  • Participates in complete production strike. Evening availability required for performance dates, August 5 – 7.

Minimum Employment Standards 

  • Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school
  • Must be available for the full term of the contract

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience/knowledge in the performing arts
  • Knowledge of backstage roles in theater
  • Experience working with youth
  • Must be collaborative, dedicated, reliable, patient, and mature

Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must be First-Aid and CPR certified at the beginning of the program
