FOR FREE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES IN RESTON (PDF)
RESTON, VA – Reston Community Center is pleased to announce new concert series that will bring live entertainment into the community at several outdoor venues this summer.
Summer 2019 expands on RCC’s proud tradition of free fun for the public, from lively Thursday dance nights at Lake Anne Plaza to hilarious children’s performers at Reston Town Square Park on Saturday mornings. New for 2019 are Lunchtime with the Arts at Mason and Summerbration Fun Brunch at Reston Station.
Lunchtime with the Arts at Mason brings student performers from George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts to Reston Town Square Park on select Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. through October 24. These performances will feature everything from Broadway show tunes to vocal jazz to tuba and euphonium ensembles. RCC will continue the success of its Friday night Summerbration Concerts at Reston Station by offering free fun throughout the weekend on the plaza atop the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station. Summerbration Fun Brunch will run Saturdays and Sundays, June 1 – August 25 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on stages in front of Founding Farmers restaurant and outside of the Jahn building. There is free parking on weekends in the Metro Parking garage. The series begins on June 1 with popular children’s group Rocknoceros. “Everyone likes to get outside in the fresh air during the summer months,” said RCC Executive Director Leila Gordon. “RCC is taking our ‘show on the road’ with these series and bringing people together right where they are. Take a Break – Thursdays, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Lake Anne Plaza
Enjoy music under the stars beside beautiful Lake Anne. Take a Break begins May 30 with the Brazilian Jazz sounds of Origem. Other Take a Break favorites such as Mambo Combo, Texas Chainsaw Horns and swing band Radio King Orchestra will visit the plaza later in the summer. Summerbration – Fridays, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Reston Station
Get up and dance as Summerbration returns for the season with classic rock group Battery Lane on May 31. Welcome back reggae band Oasis, Scott Kurt & Memphis 59, rockabilly group Four Star Combo and country band Cedar Creek, among others, at concerts that run through August 23. Family Fun Entertainment Series – Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m., Reston Town Square Park
Bring the kids for magic, comedy, puppets, music and so much more. Family Fun begins on June 15 with the Uncle Devin Show, an interactive musical experience that will take children on a magical journey to the land of Percussion. Sunday Art in the Park with the Shenandoah Conservatory – Sundays, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Reston Town Square Park
Wind down your weekend with classical, jazz and cabaret-style music provided by faculty and students from Shenandoah University’s acclaimed music conservatory. The series starts June 2 with The Crooning Cello, featuring Assistant Professor of Cello Julian Schwarz and pianist Marika Bournaki. This series is presented by RCC and Reston Town Center Association in cooperation with Shenandoah University.
