RCC TO REPROGRAM SUMMER 2020

RCC TO REPROGRAM SUMMER 2020 (PDF)

Keeping people safe while enriching lives

and building communityfrom a distance

RESTON, VA – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Reston Community Center will vastly alter its summer programming to maximize the health and safety of patrons. This includes cancelation of summer camps, June and July outdoor concerts and events, and onsite programming. However, RCC will be providing innovative, online options to best serve the community.

“This unprecedented public health crisis has upended everyone’s lives,” said RCC Board Chair Bev Cosham. “While we are disappointed not to have camps and the usual summer programming in 2020, we know it is in the best interest of our great community.”

According to RCC Executive Director Leila Gordon, the agency will be using resources to come up with online options that will showcase popular instructors and counselors. “RCC’s staff is eager to see everyone in person when it is safe to do so,” Gordon notes. “We will be following public health guidance and figuring out how to offer programs with social distancing so we can open our doors to the public again as soon as officials allow it. In the meantime, we will see our community online.”

Camps – All RCC Summer Camps are canceled. RCC had hoped to offer a revised camp schedule with enhanced social distancing and smaller sized groups. However, with the state of COVID-19 cases currently in Virginia, this will not be possible. Families who already paid for the original camp offerings have been given full refunds. RCC will be offering virtual options to keep you young patrons engaged with creative programming this summer. Watch for more information soon.

Onsite programming – RCC’s facilities remain closed to the public until further notice. If public health regulations allow, limited, registration-only fitness and aquatics programming may be offered in July and August. Several of the CenterStage’s popular PTAs performers will be filming special performances for viewing on RCC’s YouTube Channel.

Offsite programming – RCC’s slate of summer events and concerts at Reston Town Center, Lake Anne Plaza and Reston Station are postponed. If possible, performances in late July or early August with audience social distancing protocols in place may be presented. Meanwhile, visit RCC’s YouTube channel, where concerts by some of Reston’s best-loved summer performers will be posted each week in June and July.

Looking ahead, RCC will be planning for Fall 2020 with enhanced hygiene and social distancing in mind. Registration will move from August 1 (August 8 for Non-Reston) to September 1 (September 8 for Non-Reston) to give programmers and county health officials maximum time for planning and best practices.

RCC will be communicating its online summer opportunities through its website, social media channels and outreach emails. Please visit www.restoncommunitycenter.com, follow RCC on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or YouTube and send an email to RCCContact@fairfaxcounty.gov to get on the RCC mailing list and join the summer 2020 fun.
