Rediscover Your Rest with Sarah Chan

For nearly 30 years, Sarah Chan has practiced meditative movement, but it wasn’t until she joined Reston Community Center in 2014 that she realized the full impact of yoga on her life. “Wednesdays were always wonderful,” she recalls. “I had energy, my coworkers seemed nicer. At some point, I realized it was because I consistently attended yoga Tuesday nights.”

From student to teacher, Sarah has completed nearly 1,000 hours of training and taught over 400 hours of mindfulness-based practices. She now brings her experience back to RCC, guiding you to reduce stress, improve sleep and find balance through her Yoga for Rest: Hatha and Nidra Fusion class.

This beginner-friendly class blends gentle Hatha movements with restorative Yoga Nidra, or “yogic sleep,” offering a practical way to recharge even during a busy schedule.

Here are some tips from Sarah for rest and renewal:

  • Elevate your legs: Lie down and raise your legs for 5 – 10 minutes to calm your nervous system before bed
  • Body scan: Mentally check each part of your body and release tension with a deep breath
  • Micro mindfulness: Take 30 – 60 seconds for deep breathing during daily moments like your morning coffee or between meetings

“By learning to listen to my body, I feel more able to respond rather than react,” she says. Her goal is to help you cultivate calm, focus and resilience amid life’s challenges.

RCC provides a welcoming space for wellness, connection and lifelong learning. Join Sarah and rediscover your rest today.
