RESTON COMMUNITY CENTER SEEKS CANDIDATES FOR 2025 PREFERENCE POLL
Candidacy Registration Begins August 1
RESTON, VA, July 28, 2025 – Reston Community Center (RCC) is seeking interested candidates to run for seats on its Board of Governors, a nine-member body responsible for oversight of RCC. The Board establishes the overall policies for RCC and priorities for its programs and budget. Board members also represent the organization at various functions and activities in Reston. Each year, candidates for up to three seats on the Board of Governors are subject to a community preference poll with voting by residents and businesses located in Small District 5 (largely Reston ZIP codes).
The Preference Poll is an annual community event held to guide the selection of candidates to serve on the Board of Governors. All residents of Small District 5 who are at least 18 years old are eligible to run for appointment to the Board. Interested parties must complete a Candidacy Statement to have their names placed on the Preference Poll ballot. Candidacy Statements will be available at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1 at both RCC Hunters Woods and RCC Lake Anne locations and online www.restoncommunitycenter.com. The deadline for candidacy filing is Friday, August 15 at 5:00 p.m.
This year’s Preference Poll will fill three positions for three-year terms. Online and in person voting will take place from September 5 through September 26 until 5:00 p.m. Mail-in ballots must be received by RCC’s counting agent no later than September 25 at 5:00 p.m. A Candidates Forum will be held at RCC Hunters Woods on Tuesday, September 2 at 6:30 p.m.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors established the RCC Board of Governors to represent the interests of the taxpayers of Small District 5 in establishing policies and providing financial oversight of RCC. The RCC Board appointments are made by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors after voters have made their preferences known in the annual poll.
