Reston Community Center Wins National Award for Excellence in Government Communications
Around the Center E-Newsletter Takes First Place
RESTON, VA – August 20, 2025 – Reston Community Center (RCC) has received national recognition for outstanding digital communications, earning First Place in the “Digital – E-Newsletter” category at the 2025 Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards presented by the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC), a national organization committed to advocating for and advancing excellence in government communication.
The award-winning “Around the Center” e-newsletter is published biweekly and offers a streamlined snapshot of upcoming events and registration opportunities. It features a lead article offering insider insights plus a clear and organized listing of programs in categories such as fitness, aquatics and community events, making it easy for patrons to stay informed and engaged.
“We’re honored to receive this recognition from NAGC,” said RCC’s Executive Director BeBe Nguyen. “’Around the Center’ reflects our commitment to accessible, timely and relevant communication that helps our community make the most of what RCC offers. This award affirms the quality of that effort and the dedication of our communications team.”
Peer judges reviewed 282 entries submitted by government agencies across all levels including federal, state, local, county, military and tribal. A total of 88 awards were given across 34 categories along with a Best in Show honor at the Awards ceremony earlier this summer in Pittsburgh.
“The National Association of Government Communicators congratulates all the recipients of the competitive Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards,” said NAGC President Leslie Gervasio. “These honorees have demonstrated the highest standards of excellence in public service messaging. Their work exemplifies the power of clear, creative and impactful communication in informing and engaging the public.”
