Reston Community Thanksgiving Food Drive Starts November 5

RESTON, VA — Reston Community Center (RCC) announces this year’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, in partnership with Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith. Donations will be accepted Nov. 5 through Nov. 19, and volunteers will sort and deliver donations on Thanksgiving Day. The Food Drive was previously planned to begin on Nov. 1 and was delayed due to the impacts of “Sandy”.

This annual event brings community members together to support those in need. Local businesses participate as donation drop-off locations, and individuals throughout the community contribute donations at their convenience. The drive leads up to a community-wide volunteer event on Thanksgiving Day, when volunteers will sort all of the donations at RCC and then deliver them to Reston Interfaith’s food storage facility.

“The Thanksgiving Food Drive gives us an opportunity to share our time and resources with others,” said Beverly Cosham, Chair, RCC Board of Governors. “The generosity of all who give back through this and other efforts is what makes Reston such a caring community.”

Donations will be accepted beginning Nov. 5 at a variety of places throughout Reston. Non-perishable foods and other household and personal items will be accepted.

Community members who wish to volunteer to sort and deliver donations on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, must register in advance. Participation is free and the volunteer event will start at 10:00 a.m. and end around 1:00 p.m. or whenever sorting and delivery is complete. Visit www.restoncommunitycenter.com for more information and to register for the Thanksgiving Day activity.
