At Reston Community Center we believe the arts should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we launched Unforgettable – a program for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias and the caregivers who support them.
Since 2024, memory care residents and caregivers have joined us each month in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery at RCC Lake Anne. Sessions include a guided tour of engaging exhibits followed by a hands-on art activity led by RCC instructor Pauline Daniels, an expert in both arts education and neurocognitive disorders.
“She jumps into their world and lets them experience art how they see it,” says Diane Eades, Memory Care Director at Hunters Woods at Trails Edge. “Our residents really look at a painting and tell us what they see. It just lights them up.”
The results have been remarkable. One resident who rarely participates elsewhere blossoms at RCC, finding joy in creating something of her own.
Creating More “Unforgettable” Moments
In 2025, we expanded Unforgettable with Saturday sessions open to individuals and caregivers living outside memory care facilities, making the program accessible to even more people in our community.
The program is free but requires registration. Please share with anyone who could benefit from this meaningful experience.
Unforgettable is more than just a program. It’s a testament to the power of the arts to break down barriers, foster inclusion and unlock joy in every stage of life.
